Micah Parsons traded to Green Bay Packers after contract dispute with Dallas Cowboys and Jerry Jones
On Aug. 29, one week before NFL's Week 1 Thursday night kickoff, it was reported that the Dallas Cowboys traded Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers. In return, Dallas received two first-round draft picks and a front-line player. Parsons' contract with Green Bay is a $188 million deal with $136 million guaranteed. He'll make $47 million per year.
This concluded a long-winded contract dispute between Parsons and the Cowboys, particularly with Jerry Jones. According to Parsons, Jones and the team told the defensive end to play on the fifth year of his rookie contract or leave the week of his trade.
Week 1: Penn State football beats Nevada 46-11
The Nittany Lions start the 2025 season with a 1-0 record after beating the Nevada Wolf Pack at home, 46-11.
Penn State's offense smoothly made its way down the field, but it was the defense that stood out with Dani Dennis-Sutton rattling the Wolf Pack. Dennis-Sutton forced two fumbles, both of which resulted in Nicholas Singleton recording touchdowns, and was all over Nevada quarterback Chubba Purdy. Zane Durant also contributed with an interception that led to a field goal.
Fans also got their first glimpse of the wide receiver core with Kyron Hudson and Trebor Pena unleashing a new look to the Nittany Lion offense. Hudson had six catches for 89 yards and Pena posted seven catches for 74 yards. Pena and Devonte Ross were also essential in the run game, putting up key blocks that allowed Singleton to rush into the end zone easily.
Penn State women's volleyball goes 2-1 to start the season
Penn State volleyball had a 2-0 start to the season against No. 12 Creighton and No. 14 Kansas, but it was No. 13 Arizona State that got the upset on Sunday, Aug. 31.
Service and attack errors were part of the reason the Nittany Lions lost their third game, but it was the inability to stop Noemie Glover's steamrolling attack on the right side and sloppier defense in response. Even with right side hitter Kennedy Martin putting up 11 kills in the fourth set, it wasn't enough to push the match to five.
Martin had an MVP performance to start the season fresh out of Florida against the Blue Jays with 14 kills. Against the Jayhawks, Caroline Jurevicius earned the MVP of the game award after a 0.393 hitting average, the highest of the team, and a 14-kill night. She had the kill that gave Penn State the match-point in the fifth set.
Nittany Lions in the NFL: Tyler Warren and Abdul Carter make preseason waves
Tyler Warren and Abdul Carter gave the Indianapolis Colts and New York Giants, respectively, something to anticipate.
Warren posted three catches in his first preseason game against the Baltimore Ravens, recording 40 yards. He took the game as a learning opportunity, regardless of how many snaps he played, to get a feel for the NFL environment. Following it up, the tight end made a 25-yard grab along the sidelines against the Green Bay Packers. With an overpass from quarterback Daniel Jones earlier, it made Colts fans frustrated that Warren isn't going to have the offensive tools he needs to have a standout rookie performance.
As for Carter, he played six snaps in the Giants' first game against the Buffalo Bills. He pressured on each pass rush snap, getting into the backfield more than once. After a humbling, "Welcome to the NFL," moment in Week 2 getting flattened by the Jets' offensive line, Carter redeemed himself with an impressive pass rush performance yet again. The New England Patriots were forced to double-team Carter at one point to keep him off of quarterback Ben Wooldridge.
