Oklahoma State running back Jaylen Warren gets tackle by Iowa State Cyclones defensive back Isheem Young after gaining first down during the first quarter at Jack Trice Stadium Saturday, Oct. 23, 2021, in Ames, Iowa. /

2. Isheem Young – Safety/Iowa State

Young just entered the portal yesterday as part of a very strange mass exodus from the Iowa State program, but it should not take head coach James Franklin to reach out to the Philadelphia native.

Penn State Football fans who closely follow recruiting will remember Young was down to Iowa State and Penn State Football coming out of Imhotep High School in 2018. That connection with the Nittany Lions coaching staff and a potential return to his home state should give them a leg up here.

Young has been a standout safety in Ames, where in two seasons he has racked up 109 total tackles, two and a half tackles for loss, three interceptions, five pass breakups and five forced fumbles. He was named the Big 12’s co-defensive freshman of the year in 2020, and it feels like he is ready to take off in 2022.

He is a do-it-all safety who would perfectly fill the void of Jaquan Brisker who will be playing on Sundays, and even wears the number one, so it will be like he never left.

If the Nittany Lions can pair Young with Ji’Ayir Brown on the back end of this defense, they once again could have one of the best safety tandems in the country in 2022.
