Myreon Jones: Penn State Basketball ‘Never reached out’
By Evan Smith
In an Instagram story, Myreon Jones (@m.jOnes) stated that Penn State Basketball never reached out to him.
Two weeks ago, Jones announced that he is transferring to Florida.
Answering questions from fans, one follower asked “Why didn’t you want to stay at psu?” and Myreon Jones responded “They never reached out to me” followed by a shrugh emoji.
What?!?
Jones entered the transfer portal just a few days after the season ended, and Penn State Basketball announced Jim Ferry was not retained (now the head coach at UMBC) and Micah Shrewsberry would be the next head coach. Arkansas, LSU, Alabama and Mississippi were the other finalists for MJ’s services.
It was always unlikely the Mobile, Alabama native was going to stay after Pat Chambers was fired. And before the news that Brockington re-entered the transfer portal earlier today, it seems that Micah Shrewsberry did a nice job retaining Chambers’ players, keeping Seth Lundy, John Harrar and Brockington.
But Brocking likely leaving after committing to Micah coupled with MJ stating that PSU “never reached out to (him)”?
This certainly isn’t a great day for Penn State Basketball.
Why wouldn’t Shrewsberry contact the returning leading scorer and All B1G performer to at least discuss his potential return?
Keep in mind, this is just Jones’ side of the story and perhaps Shrewsberry felt with one foot out the door there was little liklihood of re-recruiting MJ? Either way, there is no excuse to not at least contact Myreon Jones and definitely leaves a sour taste from this new coaching staff.
