There are several players currently in the NCAA Transfer Portal who Penn State Basketball should target

The Transfer Portal has taketh from Penn State Basketball, but it can also giveth …

Penn State Basketball head coach Micah Shrewsberry started this season with seven players in the transfer portal taking over for Jim Ferry (now the UMBC coach) and Pat Chambers.  So far, we know Myreon Jones (Florida), Jamari Wheeler (Ohio State), Trent Buttrick (UMass) and Patrick Kelly (Fordham) have left but Izaiah Brockington and Seth Lundy have returned.  And we still don’t know about John Harrar…

As a result of those defections, Penn State Basketball’s current roster stands at:

PG — Sam Sessoms, Kyle McCloskey, Andy Christos

SG — Izaiah Brockington, Daillon Johnson, DJ Gordon

SF — Seth Lundy

PF — Myles Dread, Caleb Dorsey

C — Abdou Tsimbila

Let’s take a look at three potential prospects Shrewsberry could target in the transfer portal to help fill out his roster.

Joey Brunk – Indiana

Joey Brunk is a 6-foot-11 inch center, who played at Indiana last year after three years at Butler.

Brunk missed the entire 2020-2021 campaign due to an injury.  In Brunk’s last season playing (19-20), he averaged 6.8 points and 5.2 rebounds in almost 20 minutes per game. He has played 92 games in his collegiate career, averaging 5.0 points and 2.7 rebounds at Butler.

Why does he fit:

Penn State Basketball desperately needs front court help.

Currently, they Nittany Lions have true sophomore Abdou Tsimbila (1.1 pts, 1.6 rebounds in 4.6 minutes per game) … And that’s it for under the basket players.

Seth Lundy and Myles Dread both spent time at the power forward but are super undersized.  And true sophomore Caleb Dorsey played even less than Tsimbila.  This is a huge position of need and Bunk may come in and start from day one.
