Florida earned a quarterback commitment on Thursday from four-star Davin Davidson. While Davidson didn't get an offer from Penn State, that doesn't mean the Nittany Lions weren't affected by his decision.

The blue and white are on a mission to land a different four-star quarterback: Peter Bourque.
The Gators extended an offer to Bourque as well. Though Florida wasn't high on Bourque's list, Davidson's commitment is all but confirmation that Penn State doesn't have to worry about the SEC program coming from behind in the recruiting battle.

Davin Davidson's Florida commitment gives Matt Campbell a better shot at landing four-star quarterback Peter Bourque
The Marion, Mass. native is ranked No. 76 nationally, No. 6 among quarterbacks, and No. 1 from his state, per 247Sports Composite rankings. Rivals Industry Rankings has the Tabor Academy passer ranked 81st overall.
Penn State is projected to pick up the recruit with a 69.8 percent chance. Bourque would be the first quarterback committed to the Nittany Lions from the Class of 2027. So far as of April 10, four-star wide receiver Landon Blum is the only committed recruit on the offensive side of the ball.
Bourque continues returning to Happy Valley, proving that the blue and white are making a good impression. These strides are key as head coach Matt Campbell doesn't want to come away empty-handed from a pair of recruiting battles.
Four-star quarterback Will Mencl is also considering Penn State. Oregon, however, is the leader in that race. Mencl is ranked 84th nationally, seventh among quarterbacks, and first among recruits from Arizona.
In 2025, Mencl completed 258 passes out of 367 attempts (70.3 percent) for 3,815 yards and 33 touchdowns. On the ground, he registered 118 carries for 741 yards and 17 rushing touchdowns. For the Massachusetts quarterback, he completed 131 passes (207 attempts) for 2,241 yards and 18 scores. Bourque also had 80 carries for 688 yards and 15 touchdowns.
Campbell must come away with at least one of the two four-star passers, and things are leaning closer to Bourque.
