In September 2025, Penn State football head coach Matt Campbell developed a strong relationship with a four-star wide receiver from Woodbine, Iowa. Landon Blum made it clear that Iowa State was a top school of his, but on Saturday, it became obvious that was due to Campbell's leadership.
Hayes Fawcett of On3 first broke the news of Blum's commitment to the Nittany Lions. Rivals' Ryan Snyder reported that a series of visits starting in April 2025 with the Cyclones made them the favorites in his recruitment. He built meaningful connections with Campbell and his staff, many of whom followed the head coach over to Happy Valley.
“I have a great relationship with the old ISU staff and new PSU staff right now,” Blum told Rivals. “Really working on building that relationship with [wide receivers coach Kashif] Moore right now since he’s new to the program. He’s been great so far.”
It's not shocking that Blum stuck with his previously built connections as Campbell's culture has consistently been a standout factor into many of the recruits' decisions. Campbell is also aware of the disadvantage he's at in recruiting prospects from this class, so he can't rely on on-field results to drive his recruiting.

Four-star wide receiver Landon Blum commits to Penn State
Blum is a consensus four-star recruit, ranked 300th nationally and No. 1 out of Iowa, per 247Sports Composite rankings. Rivals has him ranked at No. 202 in the entire class, 26th among wide receivers, and also first from his state.
Penn State beat out Iowa State, Iowa, Kansas, and Ole Miss for the wideout. Blum had nearly 20 total offers throughout his recruitment.
He also plays tight end at Woodbine High School, but was recruited as a wide receiver at the collegiate level at 6-foot-4 and 200 pounds. Rivals reported that Blum finished the 2025 season with 60 receptions for 1,049 yards and 24 touchdowns.
Blum is the fifth commitment the Nittany Lions landed in their Class of 2027 and first on the offensive side of the ball. Also on Saturday during a spring practice visit, defensive lineman Carter Blattner committed to Penn State. Cornerbacks Semajay Robinson, Zachary Gleason Jr., and Ka'ron Ceasar were the first three to commit.
