Penn State Football: Recapping the 9 Commitments During April 2023
The Penn State football team has 13 hard commitments for the 2024 class which is ranked as the 6th best class nationally per 247sports. The Nittany Lions received commitments from 8 of those players for the 2024 class and 1 player in the 2025 class in April alone.
A lot happened last month, so today we will recap one of the strongest months of recruiting by the Penn State football team in recent memory.
It started on April 1st, when the Nittany Lions landed CB Jon Mitchell out of Jacksonville, FL. Mitchell is a 4-star recruit according to 247sports and he is an absolute ballhawk.
Roughly one week later, the class started to pick up steam with the addition of the #1 player in Pennsylvania. ATH Quinton Martin made his commitment on April 7th, he is a 4-star recruit and is ranked as the 34th overall player in the 2024 recruiting class nationally. He will play running back at Penn State and he is an explosive play-maker with the ball in his hands.
3 days later on April 10th, CB Antoine Belgrave-Shorter made his commitment to the Nittany Lions. He is from Jacksonville, FL and is teammates with current 2024 Penn State commit Jon Mitchell. Belgrave-Shorter is listed as a 3-star prospect according to 247sports.
On April 15th, the Penn State football team held their annual Blue-White game. After the game concluded they received a commitment from ATH Caleb Brewer. He will play on the interior of the offensive line at Penn State and he’s from Wyomissing, PA. Brewer is a 3-star prospect.
The very next day on April 16th, the Penn State football team received their lone class of 2025 commitment during April. That was from RB Kiandrea Barker who will attend The Woodlands High School this fall in Texas. He is a 4-star recruit and the staff is on this dynamic athlete early in the process which is super helpful.
After that, the Nittany Lions went on a run in Wisconsin starting with the #1 player from the state, 4-star OT Donovan Harbour on April 18th. This was a massive addition considering how Penn State has recruited this position in years past.
A few days passed, then on April 24th OT Garett Sexton made his commitment to the Penn State football team. Sexton is a 4-star recruit and is currently rated as the #4 player in Wisconsin.
On April 25th, it was another OT this time it was Eagan Boyer out of Cornelius, NC. He is listed as 6’7 260 lbs and is a 3-star recruit.
Finally, on April 28th, the Penn State football team received a commitment from 4-star running back Corey Smith. He is a high school teammates of Donovan Harbour and will pair nicely in the backfield with Quinton Martin.
With the 2024 class roughly 50% completed, they still search for the classes’ quarterback prospects, defensive linemen, and wide receivers. But the month of April was phenomenal for the Nittany Lions in terms of recruiting.
