Early this morning the Penn State football community opened social media to a surprise. James Franklin posted a We Are Better tweet meaning, that the Penn State football team received a new commitment.

It was Garrett Sexton, a 2024 offensive tackle out of Hartland, Wisconsin. Sexton is listed as a 4-star player with a 247sports composite ranking of .8958. He is currently ranked as the 4th best prospect out of Wisconsin. He chose Penn State over Oklahoma, Minnesota, and Iowa.

The reason this commitment was a bit of a surprise is that Sexton attended Oklahoma’s Spring Game this past Saturday. Many thought that his commitment date would be further away just so he had time to think about his options. His previous commitment date was slated for May 1st.

However, after this weekend he had seen enough schools and knew Penn State was the right fit for him. This is the second Wisconsin commitment in as many weeks as Donovan Harbour who is also a 4-star offensive tackle from Wisconsin committed to the Penn State football team just last week.

All eyes are also focused on this Friday when running back Corey Smith will make his commitment. He is also from Wisconsin and he is a current high school teammate with Harbour. Penn State is in a great position to land Smith as well.

Garrett Sexton is listed at 6’7 245 lbs, which is great in my opinion. He has the size and length to be an elite offensive tackle. Once he arrives at State College, the strength and conditioning team will work on adding more weight to his frame.

How about the job Phil Trautwein has done as of late on the recruiting trail? This is a coach that many fans had concerns about after the 2021 season, but it’s safe to say all of those concerns have been put to rest. April continues to be a hot streak month of recruiting for Penn State.
