On Tuesday as the clock struck noon, we were welcomed by another We Are Better tweet from Penn State football head coach James Franklin. As the Nittany Lions added 2024 OT Eagan Boyer from Cornelius, North Carolina. He chose Penn State over Auburn, North Carolina, and Clemson.

He is listed as a 3-star prospect per 247sports and stands at 6’7 260 lbs.

James Franklin and his coaching staff are not messing around with the 2024 class. They realize they have a desperate need to have true offensive tackles and they have added several over the past few weeks. Recent 2024 commits Donovan Harbour and Garrett Sexton will both play offensive tackle at Penn State, as will the 6’7 Boyer.

That is the true challenge when recruiting offensive tackles at the FBS level, they need to have long wingspans to fend off the hands of a defensive end. He has listed in his Twitter bio a self-measurement of an 80.5 wingspan which is very good.

According to Boyer’s 247 profile, he played left tackle in 2022 at Pine Lake Prep. He currently attends Williams Amos Hough which is located in Cornelius, NC.

The more depth the 2024 class can develop at the tackle position, the better off the interior offensive linemen will be. For example, instead of having to move Cooper Cousins out to tackle now with the latest additions to the class, he can primarily stay as an interior lineman.

In April Penn State has landed a total of 8 commitments between the 2024 and 2025 classes. They are starting in the trenches with 5 offensive linemen already committed to Penn State in this class.

Coach Franklin speaks about how important it is for Penn State football to get bigger on both the offensive and defensive lines he is trying to solve this past issue with his strong recruiting efforts.

There could be more fireworks to come later this week, but for now, Penn State football continues to crush it on the recruiting trail.
