With National Signing Day in the rearview mirror, James Franklin and Penn State Football will turn their attention to 2023.

Penn State Football just closed out one of its highest-ranked recruiting classes ever, as the 2022 recruiting class finished ranked sixth overall in the nation.

This result ties the Nittany Lions‘ highest-ranked class under James Franklin with the 2018 recruiting class that included Micah Parsons, Jahan Dotson, and Pat Freiermuth.

Now, the focus turns to the 2023 class that Penn State Football must keep building momentum with. The 2023 class already features seven commits and is ranked fourth in the nation. The headliner of the class is five-star, top-ranked interior offensive linemen Alex Birchmeier. Even with the fast start, there is work to be done to match the success of the 2022 recruiting class.

Here are Penn State Football’s three must-haves for the 2023 recruiting class.

Land another top-tier Quarterback

One of the hardest positions to recruit and project success is quarterback.

Penn State Football signed Drew Allar and Beau Pribula in the 2022 recruiting class. Allar projects to be the best quarterback that Penn State Football has ever had. But, until he shows it on the field, nobody knows for sure.

The great thing about college football is that you can bring in the next quarterback savior every year. You can never have too much talent in the quarterback room.

For the 2023 class to be successful, Penn State Football will need to land at least one top-tier quarterback.

Penn State has already impressed two top-five ranked quarterbacks in the 2023 cycle. The two four-star recruits that have Penn State high on their lists are Dante Moore and Jaden Rashada.

Dante Moore is from Detroit, MI. Penn State has started to make Detroit a priority and has several players currently on the roster from that area. Moore has made two unofficial visits to Happy Valley and participated in one of the recent Junior Days on campus.

Jaden Rashada is a west coast prospect from Pittsburgh, CA. Mike Yurcich will have to make an impression on Rashada to entice him to travel across the country to attend Penn State. Rashada has also visited campus twice and was present for the White Out game against Auburn.
