Takeaways from Penn State Football’s Drew Allar’s All-American Bowl Performance
Penn State Football quarterback Drew Allar was one of the standouts from the Army All American Bowl on Saturday
Saturday’s Army All-American Bowl was the first time many Penn State Football fans got to see 5-star quarterback signee Drew Allar in action.
While it’s hard to truly gauge a player’s overall talent in an exhibition game with a team that has practiced for less than a week together, Allar showed a lot of promise, but also some areas that need improvement.
Official stats from the game were not provided, but Allar did connect on a 29-yard touchdown pass and had another long competition in the fourth quarter.
Allar was also robbed of a second touchdown when the receiver dropped the ball in the end zone on fourth down.
The stats are less important than the skills Allar showed, and that’s what we’ll focus on here.
Here are three takeaways from Penn State Football QB Drew Allar’s performance at the Army All American Bowl
1. Drew Allar’s Arm Talent is Legit
Allar’s arm strength will not be a weakness in college.
Throughout the game and the practices last week, Allar threw the ball with velocity, especially on throws outside numbers. While there will be times when taking a little off the throw will be necessary, Allar has the zip needed to fit the ball in tight windows.
Additionally, Allar can stretch the field with his arm strength.
This was more evident in the practices than the game, but there wasn’t much effort put into balls thrown 40, 50 yards downfield.
This video from 247 Sport’s Steve Wiltfong is a great example of the touch Allar has on his passes and how effortless it looks at times for him.
