Grading the performance of the Penn State Football wide receivers for the 2021 regular season

What more can be said about Penn State Football wide receiver Jahan Dotson? Seriously?

The future NFL’er had a season for the ages and he single-handedly carried the offense at times this season.

The entire receiving corps had a solid season. It’s just too bad they didn’t find a way to throw themselves the ball against Iowa and Illinois.

Here are the stats for Penn State Football’s wide receivers this season.

2021 Wide Receivers
Jahan Dotson – 91 rec 1182 yards 12 TDs
Parker Washington – 57 rec 722 yards 4 TDs
Keandre Lambert-Smith – 31 rec 447 yards 2 TDs
Cam Sullivan-Brown – 4 rec 44 yards 0 TDs
Malick Meiga – 3 rec 78 yards 1 TD
Marquis Wilson – 3 rec 29 yards 0 TDs
Winston Eubanks – 1 rec 2 yards 0 TDs

I think the correct term between the numbers Dotson put up versus the rest of the receivers would best be described as “a significant drop-off”.

And it’s not due to them having a bad or mediocre season. As stated above, the entire group played well, ran good routes, and had very few drops.

I think this speaks more to how special of a player Jahan Dotson is. I know it, you know it, and more importantly, Sean Clifford knew it. Which is why he peppered Dotson throughout the season.

Jahan put together arguably the second-best season any receiver has ever had at Penn State.

Dotson’s 91 receptions and 1,182 receiving yards are second only to Allen Robinson’s 97 receptions and 1,432 receiving yards in 2013.

And Dotson’s 12 touchdowns are second to Bobby Engram’s 13 touchdowns from back in 1993.

Jahan Dotson now sits in second place in all-time receptions (183), fourth in all-time receiving yards (2,757), and second in all-time receiving touchdowns (25).

But enough about this all-time great Penn State player. How about a final grade for the entire unit?

Final grade for Penn State Football’s wide receivers: A

I mean what else could I give them?

This grade was obviously propped up by Jahan’s amazing season that will go reside alongside some of the best in Penn State Football history.

I know this isn’t a “looking ahead” article, but I have to ask the question. How can Penn State possibly fill the massive void left by Dotson?

Thank goodness people aren’t paying me to figure out the answer.
