Penn State Basketball has had a second game canceled due to positive COVID-19 tests within the Nittany Lions’ program

Following the cancelation of Saturday’s game at VCU, Penn State Athletics announced the cancelation of Penn State Basketball’s home game this upcoming Wednesday vs Delaware State. Like the VCU game, this game will also not be rescheduled.

This is the second straight game canceled due to positive COVID-19 tests within the Nittany Lion program.

SImilar to the announcement to the VCU game, Penn State issued a statement ‘the health and safety to our student-athletes, coaches, staff and the broader community are of the utmost importance….”

Given that Penn State has a vaccination mandate starting in January for all faculty and staff, it’s quite likely these positive tests came from players, not the coaching staff.

Penn State has not released information on the vaccination status of any individual players.

Coach Micah Shrewsberry back in August commented that the vaccination status was an individual choice when asked about the COVID-19 vaccine, and his team and didn’t comment on his individual vaccination status.

"Shrewberry was then forced to send a clarifying tweet stating: “To clarify my comments at the press conference, I am fully vaccinated and encourage those interested to get vaccinated as well.  As I said earlier, we have and will continue to educate our team on the benefits of vaccination.  Our main focus is to keep our team healthy and safe.”"

Penn State Basketball’s next game is scheduled at home for Delaware State on Wednesday, December 29th at 6:00 pm.
