Taking a look at what could be a loaded Penn State Football QB room, as we head into the 2022 season and how the QB depth chart will shake out.

As we head into bowl season and with early signing day being just a few short days away, it’s never too early to look ahead to Penn State Football’s 2022 season.

The 2021 campaign started with three-year starter Sean Clifford looking like an early Heisman Trophy candidate through five and a half games. Then, once Clifford suffered an injury in the Iowa game, the lack of depth was evident.

Ta’Quan Roberson looked overwhelmed by the moment when he got his chance to take over an offense that relies heavily on the QB.

Clifford returned, but could never regain the magic from the first five games.

The Nittany Lions also got a good look at Freshman Christian Veilleux when he replaced Clifford due to illness. Veilleux’s performance was impressive and made you wonder what could have been in the Iowa and Illinois games.

Looking ahead to 2022, what was a weakness should flip to a strength with what personnel is returning and two highly ranked recruits coming in.

With Clifford starting over 30 games in his career, and Penn State bringing in the #1 and #26 ranked quarterbacks according to 247 Sports QB Rankings, Penn State is going to have a great blend of experience and talent in the QB room.

Here’s a look at what Penn State Football’s QB depth chart could look like heading into the opening game against Purdue:

Fourth String–Beau Pribula(FR)

This spot on the roster is between the Freshman Beau Pribula and if he returns, Ta’Quan Roberson.

While it is most likely that this season will count as Pribula’s red-shirt season, I think if somehow Penn State gets this far down the depth chart Pribula will get the nod.

Roberson has been in the Penn State system for three years now and did not give us any confidence in his limited playing time. I will not be surprised if Ta’Quan ends up in the transfer portal and finds a fresh start. Beau Pribula will give Penn State fans a familiar look as his game has been compared to Penn State legend Trace McSorley.
