Penn State Football quarterback Sean Clifford has announced he will return in 2022 for his final year of eligibility.

Quarterback Sean Clifford has announced that he will fulfill his finals year of eligibility and return to Penn State Football in 2022.

Due to Covid-19, every player was granted an extra year of eligibility and Clifford has decided to exercise this which will make this his sixth season with the Nittany Lions.

Clifford has started 32 games in his career, and assuming he starts the Outback Bowl on New Year’s Day, he will go into next year with 33 starts under his belt and primed to break almost every passing record in Penn State Football history.

The Ohio native currently sits 2,255 yards behind all-time passing leader Trace McSorley in passing yards and only 16 behind McSorley in passing touchdowns. For all the criticism Clifford draws from the fan base and certain media members, he can easily cement himself as one of the best Nittany Lion signal callers of all time.

His role next year will go beyond just the presumed starting quarterback, he will be tasked with mentoring incoming top-rated quarterback Drew Allar. Having a veteran in that room will go a long way for Allar and his development between the ears in breaking down film and learning what it means to be the starting quarterback at Penn State.

Clifford will attempt to end the 2021 campaign on a high note when they take on Arkansas in the Outback Bowl on January 1st.
