Penn State Basketball coach Micah Shrewsberry picked up a win for the Nittany Lions on the recruiting trail, adding Evan Mahaffey Wednesday

Penn State Basketball secured a committed from Evan Mahaffey, a three star recruit for the class of 2022.

This is Penn State Basketball’s second commmit for the class of 2022 to go along with Kanye Clary (from Virginia).

Mahaffey is a three star recruit according to 24/7 sports and plays the small forward position.  He is listed at 6 foot five inches and hails from Cincinnati, Ohio (40th ranked small forward in the nation and fourth from the state of Ohio).

Neither a two star (Clary) nor Mahaffey (a three star) are really going to move the needle with recruiting for the Nittany Lions but hopefully this is the start of a big recruiting push for the new coaching staff (cough, Dereck Lively, cough).

Former Coach Pat Chambers was consistently getting three star recruits so a two and three thus far isn’t going to be considered a huge improvement; on the other hand, it’s good to at least have two players planning on coming to Penn State in 2022.

Coach Micah Shrewsberry ‘announced’ the news via twitter in this fashion:

We still don’t know about the only ‘signed’ 2021 recruit, Elijah Hutchins-Everett, who committed to Pat Chambers, then decommitted when Pat was fired, then kind of recommitted to Shrewsberry but still isn’t listed on the official Penn State roster.

Penn State Basketball opens the season hosting Youngstown State this November.
