Penn State Basketball head coach Micah Shrewsberry signed point guard Kanye Clary over schools such as Texas A&M, James Madison, and others

Penn State Basketball announced the signing of 2022 Point Guard Kanye Clary from Virginia,.

Clary had also received offers from Texas A&M, James Madison, Norfolk State, Old Dominion and Hampton, which aren’t necessarily any insane schools to write home about but hey, a recruit is a recruit.

The 5-foot-11 point guard is unranked by Rivals or 247, which again doesn’t speak too highly towards him, but this is clearly a position of need.

Currently , the Nittany Lions have Jahaem “Boogie” Cornwall and Sam Sessoms, each transfers into the Penn State Basketball program.

Hopefully this is the start of a strong recruiting 2022 recruiting class for new head coach Micah Shrewsberry, who’s also looking at Jayson Oweh’s brother, Otega and consensus five-star Dereck Lively.

Likely Shrewsberry is hoping this signing can lead towards a recruiting windfall forthcoming and likely Penn State is thinking Clary will have an excellent senior year and thus important to sign him now.

As a reminder, here is where the 2021-2022 Penn State Basketball roster currently stands:

PG — Boogie Cornwall, Sam Sessoms

SG — Jalen Pickett

SF — Seth Lundy, Myles Dread

PF — Jevonnie Scott

C — John Harrar

Other reserves:  Daillon Johnson, Caleb Dorsey, Andy Christos

(of note, Kyle McCloskey is no longer listed on the active roster but Andy Christos is, perhaps meaning he has or will soon be given a scholarship).

Penn State will need to get another PF, backup center and shooting guard for the upcoming year, but either way, it’s nice to have a 2022 point guard signed.  Welcome, Kanye!
