Sophomore running back Devyn Ford did not do anything to fall on this list, and was actually one of the running backs who saw a lot of action in the two open practices, but the writing seems to be on the wall for his future with Penn State Football.

Ford saw his job taken away by freshman Keyvone Lee late last season, and this offseason we saw the Nittany Lions add to an already crowded backfield when they landed Baylor transfer John Lovett.

The sophomore ran for 274 yards and three touchdowns on 67 attempts in 2020 but struggled when thrust into the role of lead back after Noah Cain and Journey Brown were sidelined. The return of a healthy Cain this year, who is ahead of schedule with his rehab and participated this spring, likely means even less carries for Ford.

A three headed monster of Lee, Cain and Lovett is the likely direction Penn State Football will go with their backfield rotation, while freshman Coziah Holmes should also factor into the mix, as he showed good speed and burst in limited reps last fall.

It was even a bit of a surprise that Ford stuck around this offseason after the arrival of Lovett, and it would be even more surprising if he is on the roster for the 2022 season.
