Purdue basketball player enters portal, possible Penn State Basketball target?
By Evan Smith
Emmanuel Dowuona, Purdue Boilermaker Center, announced he is entering the tranfer portal, and could be a target for Penn State Basketball.
The Purdue big man struggled to see the floor this year, appearing in just nine games. Dowuona averaged 1.3 points per game, .9 rebounds per game, .3 blocks per game and .2 steals per game, while shooting 46.2% from the floor.
So, why should Penn State Basketball be excited about Dowuona entering the portal?
New Head Coach Micah Shrewsberry mentioned hitting the transfer portal hard to fill out the roster. The Miami, Florida native was a three star recruit in the class of 2018 when he committed to Purdue. He is a 6’11” senior that also held offers from Tennessee, Clemson, Connecticut and Florida Gulf Coast.
Penn State Basketball’s needs on the frontcourt are well documented. The roster currently has one bonafide front court player, F/C Abdou Tsimbila, who only played 74 minutes this past season. A highly recruited big men from the school that Shrewsberry just left is a very attractive candidate to help fill the froont court. Remember, Dowuona’s limited minutes at Purdue were not a result of lack of performance; he played behind standout F/C Trevion Williams (6’10”) and freshman C Zach Edey (7’4″), a likely future All-Big Ten performer.
Without knowing if John Harrar will return (after his “Midnight Domino” podcast friend Myreon Jones officially announced his departue and fellow-senior Jamari Wheeler committed to Ohio State), Penn State needs any and every big men they can possibly find.
