3. Anthony Poindexter Will Take Safety Recruiting to the Next Level

Penn State Football had recruited well at the safety position under Tim Banks , but they often missed on their top targets.

Derrick Davis was a big miss in 2021and guys like Jordan Morant and RJ Moten were lost to Michigan in 2020.

Poindexter is a high energy guy who is well liked by most of the recruits and high school coaches he interacts with. His connections to the DMV are also vital to his recruiting efforts.

Poindexter hasn’t been considered an elite recruiter from a national standpoint, but when you’re at schools like UConn and Purdue, that’s hard to do.

Penn State has a lot of top safety targets on the board, and it’s possible they already have one committed in Mehki Flowers, although his future position is not yet determined.

5-star Keon Sabb is out there, he’s now at IMG Academy in Florida instead of New Jersey. Other targets include Christian Driver, Sherrod Covil and Mumu Bin-Wahad.

This board will no doubt expand as Poindexter is able to go out and see prospects.

Poindexter is a college football hall of famer, kids will want to play for him and be intrigued by how he can help develop them. With him in Happy Valley, Penn State’s safety recruiting could take that next step and get on the level that running back recruiting is on.
