Penn State Football has the most crowded backfield in the Big Ten, with five running backs who they use and count on, but the X-factor for this season is Noah Cain.

Coming off an ankle/Achilles injury in Week 1 last season, Cain’s health will be a storyline for the Nittany Lions offense. If Cain is back to his old self of 2019 he is the best of the bunch, but freshman back Keyvone Lee might have something to say about that.

In his freshman campaign Lee rushed for 438 yards and four touchdowns in really only four games of being the lead back. He took over for Devyn Ford who showed he may not be a lead guy, but freshman Coziah Holmes showed flashes at the end of the season, particularly a good burst and will benefit from a full offseason.

John Lovett comes over from Baylor through the transfer portal where he rushed for over 1,800 yards and 17 touchdowns and brings veteran leadership to an otherwise very young, but talented room.
