Penn State Versus Nebraska: Predictions
Marty Leap, Contributor
Nebraska stinks. In fact, each of Penn State’s final three opponents stink but Nebraska is the smelliest. Due to this, Saturday’s senior day game at Beaver Stadium should not be close.
Last week Nebraska allowed 55 points and over 400 rushing yards to a bad Minnesota team. The 4-5 Cornhuskers now limp into Beaver Stadium to face a top-10 Penn State team poised to play in their second consecutive New Year’s Six Bowl. Also, the Nittany Lions may have Ryan Bates and Ryan Buchholz back after both returned to practice this past week.
Even with their offensive line woes, the Nittany Lion offense should roll this weekend. Look for Trace McSorley to have another strong game while Saquon Barkley and the rushing attack gets back on track this weekend. DaeSean Hamilton and Mike Gesicki will both catch a touchdown pass in their Beaver Stadium finales. Nebraska runs a 3-4 defense, but does not have the personnel to do so. This makes their defense ripe for the picking.
Defensively, the Nittany Lions could have a field day. Brian Lewerke’s 400 yard outing aside, the strength of Penn State’s defense is still the secondary. Nebraska will look to throw the ball 30+ times, even if quarterback Tanner Lee misses the game which is possible, and the Penn State pass rush should have a big day against a bad Nebraska offensive line that allowed seven sacks last week. Don’t be surprised if the Nittany Lion defense has 5+ sacks and forces multiple turnovers on Saturday.
This senior class is a special one for the Nittany Lions. They are made up of a group of redshirt seniors that committed to a program in turmoil and true seniors who made up James Franklin’s first recruiting class and stuck with the program after Bill O’Brien left for the NFL. It also includes some of the most productive players in program history in players such as DaeSean Hamilton, Marcus Allen, and Mike Gesicki.
Playing for this group, this game will be an annihilation.
