Special Teams:
Another week yields the same results on special teams. Add two more blunders to the growing list of issues with this unit.
DeAndre Thompkins muffed a punt in the third quarter with Penn State down 4 points. Michigan recovered at the Penn State 9 and was in the endzone three plays later.
Later in the fourth quarter after Penn State had just cut the Michigan lead to five points, Wolverine Jourdan Lewis returned the ensuing kickoff 55 yards to the Penn State 40. Michigan would score a touchdown on the drive, effectively ending any hope of a Nittany Lion comeback.
It’s these special teams blunders, combined with mediocre punting, that really put both the offense and defense in bad situations.
The positive here was that Tyler Davis remained perfect, hitting all three of his field goal attempts although his last one barely made it over the upright after being partially blocked.
