Coaching:

More questionable decisions in the play-calling and time management led to similar results on the field.

Even though many fans and media members have called out James Franklin for the decision to kick the field goal on fourth and goal from the Michigan one yard line, I’m not so sure it was the worst decision.  If the ensuing kickoff wasn’t returned for 55 yards and the defense holds, who knows what could have happened with Penn State getting the ball back.  We have the benefit of hindsight now.

The play-calling in this game was suspect again.  There were not enough intermediate passing plays and the run formations were just way too predictable.  The red zone play calls were atrocious and led to field goals instead of touchdowns.

The staff doesn’t have this team ready for games and they can’t get the team to capitalize on their opportunities, as they missed several during this game.
