VBR Against The Spread-Week 1
By Matt de Bear
Navy at Notre Dame (-16.5)
Notre Dame brings a squad depleted by suspensions and injuries to Dublin, Ireland to face historic rival Navy. Not a bad way to start our first college football Saturday!
Matt -Navy
Believe it or not, this spread has gone UP since opening at -14, even as the Irish have lost key players seemingly daily due to injury or suspension. Notre Dame wins this game, but Navy always plays the Irish close, and 16.5 is way too much.
Tim – Navy
Notre Dame will be without starting RB Cierre Wood and recently lost CB Lo Wood for the season. Something about Navy stepping off of an aircraft carrier and winning (or not losing by 17) seem poetic.
Craig – Navy
Would love to have gotten another half-point up to 17, but I believe that is just too much for a team with a lot of uncertainty in their starting lineup. Navy is a tough team to game plan for, and I believe their discipline will keep it closer than expected. Also, who doesn’t love rooting against ND.
Corey – Notre Dame
The Fighting Irish playing a game in the “Mother Land”, I guess I’ll wake up early to have some Lucky Charms and then go drink a pint or two of Guiness. OK, may be not. The Irish have a rash of suspensions to some of their key players like QB Tommy Rees, RB, Cierre Wood, and LB Carlo Calabrese. Even still, the Irish should have enough to beat Navy. Navy struggled last season, and they are going to struggle again this year!
Chris – Notre Dame
Even without key players Tommy Rees and Cierre Wood on offense, the Irish should be able to move the ball and put up points on a Navy defense that struggled mightily last year. Navy not only doesn’t pull the upset on the Irish, they don’t even keep it close.
