Now that Penn State is done hosting games at Beaver Stadium this season, after its 38-10 win over SMU in the first round of the 12-team College Football Playoff, the school is ready to continue the $700 million renovations to its football stadium. The next step in that process is to demolish the press box and Penn State is inviting fans to come and watch the spectacle.

The demolition will take place on Saturday, January 4 from 7:30 a.m. until 8:30 p.m. So, much like a Big Noon Kickoff game at Beaver Stadium, there may not be much time to tailgate beforehand unless you’re a particularly early riser. The parking lots open for tailgaters at 7:30 a.m. just thirty minutes before the scheduled demolition at 8:00 a.m.

While the demolition of the press box was scheduled before Penn State’s Fiesta Bowl quarterfinal CFP matchup against Boise State on New Year’s Eve in Glendale, Arizona, the program has to be hoping for a win and an excited fanbase with a national championship still on its mind heading into the CFP semifinal. If James Franklin leads the Nittany Lions past Boise State, then they will draw the winner of the Sugar Bowl between Notre Dame and Georgia, the No. 2 overall seed and SEC champions.

You have to be a dedicated fan to come to a press box demolition at 7:30 in the morning, so credit to everyone who shows up, especially if the Broncos pull off an upset as 11.5-point underdogs.
