The White Out is one of the most hectic, chaotic atmospheres in college football. It’s a level of hostility opposing offenses struggle overcoming, which is why Penn State football has won six of the last eight games with that theme. Unfortunately for the Nittany Lions (3-3, 0-3 Big Ten), though, they finished one head coach era with a White Out loss and kicked off a new head coach era with one as well.

Penn State with new head coach Matt Campbell lost its third straight game of the 2026 season. It came off losses to Wisconsin and Northwestern, showed promise with a packed Beaver Stadium in Week 6, and ultimately came short in a 31-23 loss to No. 19 USC.

"The most disappointing part for me is that we can't give this incredible fanbase that has showed out. It was an unbelievable atmosphere, it was one of the most impressive environments I've been able to coach in and be a part of. And I think my disappointment, right now we can’t give them the result that they deserve," Campbell said to reporters after the game.

The Nittany Lions couldn't capitalize on the ultimate home field advantage, but the Trojans sure loved coming out of that atmosphere with a win.

Basic Blues Nation posted a video following the game that featured USC players celebrating outside the visitor's locker room with their band and fans on the concourse.

USC's band and fans traveled for the game, bringing a bit of red to the sea of red in the stadium. However, they were condensed to a small corner up high and completely overlooked in comparison to the blue and white faithful.

Oregon head coach Dan Lanning proved in 2025 that a White Out win is huge. He celebrated after the game with the few Ducks' fans who made the trip to Happy Valley, who were also "banished" to a faraway spot in the stands. Lanning made sure to notice them after the game and continued celebrating on social media with a post of the game-ending interception.

About one year later, it was the Trojans' turn to bring their own energy to the White Out.

A win is always something to celebrate, but overcoming such a hostile environment makes the victory even sweeter and even greater to celebrate. Penn State's fans may have showed up big for their team — in fact breaking the White Out attendance record — but the Trojans were the ones who took over Beaver Stadium by the end of the game.
