Underrated Penn State EDGE target posted a ridiculous 40 time that will keep his stock rising

Matt Campbell can't pump the brakes on recruiting Ifeanyi Emedobi, even though he's not in a favorable position to land him.

Penn State football hasn't landed a Class of 2027 edge rusher, but as one of its targets said, perhaps the "best is yet to come."

Ifeanyi Emedobi, a four-star recruit from Fort Wayne, Ind. is the No. 37 edge rusher in the country and No. 436 overall prospect, per 247Sports Composite rankings.

He has quite a busy official visit season ahead of him, making four stops to visit each of his top teams before making his decision. The Nittany Lions, Michigan, Indiana, and Minnesota are all in the mix. Emedobi will be in Happy Valley second on June 5-7 after seeing the Golden Gophers on May 29-31. The Hoosiers (June 12-14) and Wolverines (June 19-21) are his last two teams he has in his calendar.

Unfortunately for Penn State, Michigan is favored to land Emedobi by more than a mile at this point. On Saturday, May 23 into Sunday, May 24, the Wolverines had expert predictions coming in one after another. By Sunday night, they had five Rivals experts in their corner.

Though a 94.6 percent chance of landing Emedobi is an incredibly steep mountain to overcome for head coach Matt Campbell, Emedobi's latest stats and measurements are proof that Campbell cannot afford to wave the white flag in this recruitment battle.

On Wednesday, Emedobi posted his updated measurables on Twitter/X. One of the most noteworthy stats was his 40-yard time, which was 4.48 seconds. While his weight at 210 pounds is something he'll have to build on to seriously compete, his speed is already a clear indicator that he'll be an explosive threat on the edge.

The Nittany Lions aren't shallow at defensive end with Max Granville, Mason Robinson, Yvan Kemajou, and Ikenna Ezeogu on the roster. They also added four-star Class of 2026 prospect Jackson Ford who's expected to be forceful and agile getting to the ball carrier.

However, due to injuries and playing behind guys like Dani Dennis-Sutton, Mylachi Williams, and Jaylen Harvey, the current players on Campbell's roster, aside from redshirt senior Ezeogu, are somewhat unproven as consistent impact players at the Power Four level.

Adding speed and agility in never a bad thing, the Emedobi brings just that. Aside from him, Campbell doesn't have many difference makers at edge rusher that he's targeting. LSU in threatening to take Abraham Sesay off the table, who Notre Dame was already projected to land. Emedobi is the last likely recruit Campbell can land. He can't go empty-handed between Sesay and Emedobi, though projections look like that is what exactly will take place.
