Penn State football is in another unsurprising spot on an updated poll. The AP Top 25 Poll rankings following Week 1 were released Tuesday at 2 p.m. ET. The Nittany Lions' (1-0) placement remained unchanged from the preseason and they stayed No. 2 after a non-conference win over Nevada.

Penn State received seven first-place votes and received 1,558 total points after Week 1. It was one of three teams whose placement remain unchanged. No. 18 Oklahoma and No. 19 Texas A&M were also consistent from the preseason rankings. New additions to the Top 25 include No. 14 Florida State and No. 25 Utah.

"Penn State’s 46-11 win over Nevada was enough to retain the No. 2 spot," Maura Carey wrote. ". . . It was the kind of dominant win expected of a team of Penn State’s caliber against a Nevada team that finished 3-10 in 2024."

Carey specifically noted quarterback Drew Allar's performance, which finished just under 85 percent with 22 of 26 passes completed. Running backs Nicholas Singleton and Kaytron Allen earned nods for their three combined touchdowns as well as backup quarterback Ethan Grunkemeyer for his rushing touchdown late in the game once Allar took the backseat. Wide receiver Kyron Hudson also earned recognition for his 31-yard touchdown reception in the end zone.

Though it's not an impressive win on Penn State's record, players on both sides of the ball had standout performances that gave a glimpse as to what's in store in 2025. It wasn't a game that deserved a handful of first-place votes, but it was enough to keep the blue and white in the top three.

With 1,636 points and 55 first-place votes, Ohio State took over the No. 1 spot, jumping over the Nittany Lions and de-crowning Texas. The Buckeyes received 44 more first-place votes than in the preseason poll after defeating the Longhorns. Texas now takes over the No. 7 spot on the AP Poll.

This means that two Big Ten teams make up the top three in the poll as Week 2 gets rolling. Oregon is the third and only other team from the conference to make the Top 10.
