Over the past couple of weeks, college football recruiting for the 2025 class has been chaotic. With recruits flipping left and right, including Penn State losing Alvin Henderson and DJ McClary in the past few days, the future landscape of college football continues to evolve. Teams are able to throw together lucrative NIL packages to already committed recruits, and even verbal commitments mean next to nothing at this point.

Even with Henderson and McClary flipping their verbal commitments, Penn State has landed multiple four-star recruits recently. 247sports has their 2025 class ranked in the top ten in the country, and second in the Big Ten conference, evidently to Ohio State. The Nittany Lions now sit at eighteen commits for their 2025 class, including ten four-stars and eight three-stars.

Penn State fans get excited when they see these tweets from head coach James Franklin:

And when he posts those, that means that they have landed another recruit. Penn State fans should expect one from Lex Cyrus very soon.

Cyrus is a 5’10 wide receiver from Harrisburg, PA, and is the No. 1 wide receiver recruit from the state of Pennsylvania. He is ranked 256th nationally by 247sports, and received “warm” interest from South Carolina as well, even taking an official visit there on June 7th.

However, all signs point to Cyrus becoming a Nittany Lion. Ed O’Brien, a 247sports insider, placed the second crystal ball on Cyrus to Penn State. Brian Dohn, 247sports National Recruiting Analyst, placed the first one back in February.

Cyrus would be a key pickup for Franklin and his staff from the 2025 recruiting pool, as out of their eighteen commits currently, only one is a wide receiver, Lyrick Samuel from Brooklyn, NY. Samuel stands at 6-foot-4 and is ranked 384th in the 2025 recruiting class.

Even though a verbal commitment does not ultimately mean a player will attend that school, look for Cyrus to verbalize his own commitment to Penn State within the next week.
