Penn State football has best offensive performance in program history in Week 4
By Josh Yourish
Penn State’s offense has come to life in 2024 under new offensive coordinator Andy Kotelnicki after the Nittany Lions struggled to score in 2023 with former OC Mike Yurcich calling plays in Happy Valley. Through the first two games of Penn State’s season, Kotelnicki’s use of creative formations and pre-snap motion have gotten the most out of junior quarterback Drew Allar, but in Week 4, Kotelnicki, Allar, and backup quarterback Beau Pribula got the most of the Penn State offense in program history.
In No. 10 Penn State’s 56-0 win over 0-3 Kent State, the Nittany Lions gained 718 total yards, the most in the history of the program, breaking a 98-year-old record. The preseason record of 711 yards was set in 1926 against Susquehanna University. The Nittany Lions also set a program record with 40 first downs.
Penn State turned the ball over on its first possession with Beau Pribula getting intercepted by a Kent State defensive lineman on a screen pass. From that point on, Penn State scored a touchdown on eight of its next drives with scores by eight different players.
Allar finished with 309 passing yards on 17/21 passing with touchdown throws to tight end Tyler Warren, wide receiver Liam Clifford, and wide receiver Omari Evans. Allar also ran in a touchdown, as did young running back Cam Wallace and Pribula. Pribula threw a touchdown to tight end Khalil Dinkins and Warren, a high school quarterback, threw a touchdown pass to Nick Singleton in the second quarter.
Penn State’s performance was comprehensively dominant against a Kent State team that lost to Tennessee 71-0 in Week 3. The Nittany Lions also only allowed 67 total yards and only six first downs.
