Penn State football has yet to acquire its first commitment from the Class of 2027. On Thursday, March 26, that search for the start of its recruitment class continued.
Matt Campbell would be silly not to take a huge swing on 5-star, in-state recruit
Four-star defensive lineman Jon Ioane announced his commitment to Washington. He chose the Huskies over the Nittany Lions, UCLA, Cal, and Stanford.
"Something about that Purple Rain, Go Dawgs!" Ioane exclaimed, as reported by Hayes Fawcett of On3.

Four-star defensive lineman Jon Ioane commits to Washignton over Penn State
Ioane is ranked 267th in the Class of 2027 and is No. 24 out of prospects from California, according to 247Sports Composite rankings.
The Tustin, Calif. native, per his scouting report, has clean and quick footwork, explosive ability, balance, and power. He's expected to make negative plays, particularly in the run game. While Ioane can swing towards either side of the ball, he's anticipated to succeed more in the trenches on defense.
In 2025, Ioane played on both the offensive and defensive line. He registered 50 tackles, 21 quarterback hurries, 14 tackles for loss, four sacks, three pass breakups, and one forced fumble.
His decision to commit to Washington doesn't come as a surprise. The Huskies offered Ioane back in May 2024 and he took his first unofficial visit to campus on Sept. 27, 2025. The lineman returned to Seattle, Wash. for the school's Junior Day on March 7. In between that visit and his commitment, Ioane also took an unofficial visit to the Bruins' campus.
Before the announcement of his commitment, Ioane had multiple visits set up. He planned on visiting the Golden Bears, Washington, Penn State, and UCLA in back-to-back weeks. However, according to Greg Biggins of On3, Ioane will cancel his visits to other schools.
“I always had a gut feeling I was going to end up at Washington. It was only a matter of time and the more I thought about it, I wanted to go just go ahead and do it and not have Washington waiting around for me and stressing about it," Ioane told Biggins.
“Washington recruited me harder than anyone and they did a great job reaching out to me and always staying connected. It feels great to have the decision behind me. Now I can just focus on my team here at Tustin and having a great senior year without worrying about recruiting.”
