Montgomery is ranked 540th overall nationally among recruits from the Class of 2027 and 56th among defensive linemen, according to 247Sports Composite rankings. He's also the No. 18 prospect out of Pennsylvania.

Campbell re-offered Montgomery on Jan. 15. He visited campus on an unofficial visit on Jan. 31 and scheduled an official visit with the Nittany Lions for May 29. Montgomery has yet to schedule visits with other programs.

Alongside Penn State, Delaware, Cincinnati, Temple, Liberty, and Michigan State extended offers on Feb. 3, the same day he de-committed from the Orange. James Madison, Virginia, UConn, Kentucky, Boston College, Pittsburgh, Wake Forest, North Carolina State, Duke, and Wisconsin are the other schools Montgomery has offers from since May 2025. Syracuse was his lone offer from 2024.

Montgomery is currently one of Penn State's top defensive prospects from the Class of 2027. The Nittany Lions are also improving with four-star safety Gabe Jenkins, four-star edge rusher James Pace III, three-star safety Jonathan Galette, three-star cornerback Zachary Gleason Jr., and three-star safety Malakai Taufoou from their group of top prospects on defense.

Jenkins and Gleason Jr. are the only other two aside from Montgomery who are also Pennsylvania natives. Campbell has yet to gain traction with in-state recruits as they announce their commitments to other programs, such as five-star running back Kemon Spell choosing SEC's Georgia over the in-state Big Ten team.

Three-star wide receiver Isaiah Alvarez from New Jersey also expressed his interest in the Nittany Lions, as reported by Calvaruso on Feb. 8.
