Penn State football head coach Matt Campbell and his staff are moving along with a number of Class of 2027 recruits despite experiencing some setbacks along the way.
Penn State football catches the eye of 4-star, in-state linebacker
The latest recruit is three-star wide receiver Isaiah Alvarez from Ramsey, N.J. The Nittany Lions extended an offer on Feb. 6, becoming one of 17 program interested in the six-foot, 260-pound wideout.
Alvarez is the No. 588 recruit from his class, the No. 75 wide receiver, and the 20th-ranked prospect out of New Jersey, per 247Sports Composite rankings. As a junior in 2025 at Don Bosco Prep, he registered 689 receiving yards and six touchdowns on 38 receptions. He also had seven carries for 83 yards and one rushing touchdown. During the season, he accumulated a total of 10 touchdowns, according to MaxPreps.
Tyler Calvruso of 247Sports reported that Alvarez is interested in the direction Campbell is taking Penn State. He posted to Twitter/X that the re-offer put the Nittany Lions back on Alvarez's radar.
“I like what they are building over there right now," Alvarez told Calvaruso.

Penn State is becoming an attractive spot for Class of 2027 recruits weighing their options
After the blue and white hired Campbell, recruits sparked interest in the program again. The poor 2025 regular season was one thing, and firing Virginia Tech headcoach James Franklin was the last straw for many. A series of de-commitments blew up Penn State's recruitment, and Campbell is salvaging that quickly.
Though five-star running back Kemon Spell opted to commit to Georgia, his serious reconsideration of the Nittany Lions was huge. Four-star wide receiver Khalil Taylor is another Class of 2027 prospect who is currently projected to land at Penn State, according to 247Sports Crystal Ball® Predictions.
Campbell has yet to earn a commitment from a recruit from this class of rising high school seniors. However, he's in good standing with many, including those who crossed Penn State of their lists in the middle of the 2025 season, as he embarks on a new era of Nittany Lion football.
