Penn State running back Kaytron Allen was on his way to claiming the top spot as Penn State football's all-time rushing yards leader when he hit the ground hard and came up with a face full of grass. As he wiped his face clean and removed his helmet, Allen hobbled on the Nittany Lions' sideline.

Kaytron Allen makes history in first quarter against Nebraska

Trying to pick up the first down on second-and-one, Allen extended his right arm to fend off the Nebraska defender. As he tried to keep the play alive, he grabbed the Cornhuskers' face mask and was driven into the ground by two as he face planted out of bounds.

He entered the medical tent following the play, but when the NBC broadcast returned, he was on the sidelines seemingly ready to get back into the game.

Kaytron Allen returns to field, makes history, and extends Penn State's lead

Allen stayed off the field for the first play of the fourth quarter, but soon ran back out.

On second-and-seven, the Cornhuskers knew Allen was getting the carry and clogged up the middle to keep him put at the line of scrimmage. On third-and-seven, he picked up three yards, officially making him Penn State's leader in all-time rushing yards in program history.

Earlier in the night, he surpassed Saquon Barkley. The three-yard gain pushed Allen over Evan Royster's 3,932 yards. The play gave him two yards over Royster's record. Just because he made history didn't mean he was done yet.

After a fake punt on fourth down with tight end Luke Reynolds picking up 26 yards, quarterback Ethan Grunkemeyer threw an incomplete pass into the end zone for tight end Andrew Rappleyea. The contact from Nebraska drew a pass interference penalty, putting the Nittany Lions at the 13-yard-line.

Allen took the ball immediately and rushed in for a Penn State touchdown. This extended the lead to 37-10 on Senior Day at Beaver Stadium with the running backs, Allen and Nicholas Singleton, making history while they were at it. Singleton tied Barkley at first for all-time rushing touchdowns in team history.
