Penn State football added its latest, highest-ranked recruit from the Class of 2027 in four-star cornerback Kei'Shjuan Telfair. That top spot can be replaced though if the Nittany Lions can land one of their quarterback targets.
Matt Campbell and Terry Smith make huge recruitment splash with 4-star CB commitment
Will Mencl, a five-star quarterback from Chandler, Ariz., received a new ranking on Rivals300 ratings. Rivals posted it on Monday, which features Mencl's five-star rating and his No. 13 ranking overall in the country.

Mencl was described as a "hyper-accurate passer" and "one of the more well-rounded quarterback prospects" from his class.
"A high-level processor who is able to locate open receivers and read defender leverage. Made tough throws over the middle of the field as a junior. Also proved to be a dangerous run threat on designed keepers," Rivals continues in its scouting summary. "Will need to continue gaining key in-game experience throughout the rest of his high school career. Arm strength is good but not overwhelming at this stage.”
Mencl is also the highest-ranked quarterback, per Rivals300 rankings.
Five-star quarterback Will Mencl sets commitment date and receives impressive Rivals ranking
On top of receiving his new ranking, Mencl also announced his commitment date. He revealed that the announcement will come in two days on Wednesday, April 22 at 7:30 p.m. ET.
Penn State, Auburn, and Oregon are favorites to land the blue chip quarterback. The Ducks have been considered the top program for some time, but the Nittany Lions with head coach Matt Campbell could be a dark horse that suddenly comes from behind and snatch Mencl.
In 2025, his squad at Chandler High School finished 10-3. He registered a 70.3 completion rate on 258 completed passes out of 367 attempts. This was good for 3,815 yards and 33 touchdowns. On the ground, he rushed for 741 yards and 17 scores on 118 carries.
Mencl has a high ceiling, one Campbell will greatly benefit from with the departure of senior quarterback Rocco Becht after the 2026 season. The staff's Arizona ties can be a factor in reeling him over to Happy Valley, and put him on the field, potentially, from day one.
