Penn State football cracked the top 10 for 2027 recruitment classes around the country, slotting in at No. 6 after a major commitment rolled in on Sunday.

Penn State picks up commitment from in-state, 3-star interior offensive lineman

Hayes Fawcett of On3/Rivals reported the announcement on April 19 after the Nittany Lions started off the day with a commitment from three-star interior offensive lineman Jon Sassic.

Four-star cornerback Kei’Shjuan Telfair was next. Early in the afternoon, Fawcett reported that Telfair chose the blue and white over programs like Miami and Clemson.

Four-star cornerback Kei’Shjuan Telfair commits to Penn State

Athe Euclid, Ohio native is a top 100 recruit in 247Sports Composite rankings at No. 93. He's ranked No. 12 among cornerbacks and fourth among recruits from Ohio. Rivals Industry rankings has the four-star defensive back ranked No. 111 nationally, No. 14 at his position, and No. 4 from his state.

Telfair had three official visits lined up, one with each of his three top teams: Penn State, Miami, and Clemson. Notre Dame was also on his radar, but he ultimately went with the Nittany Lions.

"I feel like they plan they have for me, they really want to develop me and get me to the next level," Telfair told Lions247. "[Head] coach [Matt] Campbell was really preaching how he wants to start this thing and build a good program. He said wants to start off with me, so I feel like making this decision was the best for me and my family."

Telfair and his family visited Happy Valley for a multi-day visit the weekend prior to his commitment. He observed spring practice and met up with assistant head coach and cornerbacks coach Terry Smith as well as Campbell.

That impact was strong enough to withstand an unofficial visit he took with the Hurricanes leading into his decision.

"I feel like I fit great in Penn State's system," Telfair told Tyler Calvaruso of 247Sports. "They make plays on the ball and I feel like that's what I do great – making plays on the ball and getting turnovers. That's what they're big on."

The Nittany Lions' Class of 2027 is packed with cornerbacks, but Telfair exceeds not only in his position room, but among all recruits currently committed. He ranks above four-star wide receiver Landon Blum, who is now the second-highest rated commit. Telfair joins three-star cornerbacks Ka'ron Ceasar, Zachary Gleason Jr., and Semajay Robinson in the backfield.
