Three-star interior offensive lineman Jon Sassic commits to Penn State
Penn State beat out Pittsburgh, West Virginia, Florida State, and Virginia Tech for the lineman. Sassic is the No. 1,018 nationally-ranked recruit, No. 69 interior offensive lineman, and No. 31 prospect from Pennsylvania, per 247Sports Composite rankings.
He is a Pittsburgh, Penn. native who is ranked No. 278 nationally, No. 80 at his position, and No. 28 from his state, according to Rivals Industry Ranking,
Sassic told Tyler Calvaruso of 247Sports that the in-state ties to a historic program put the Nittany Lions over the edge. He specifically mentioned running back Saquon Barkley and quarterback Trace McSorley. The lineman also has family ties to Penn State, noting that his aunt, uncle, and cousin attended State College as well.
"They were definitely pushing me for that one," Sassic told Calvaruso of his family.
Owen Reilly was the first interior offensive lineman who committed to the Nittany Lions, doing so two days before Sassic on April 17. They join four-stars, tight end Cooper Terwilliger and wide receiver Landom Blum, on that side of the ball.
"I would fit anywhere on the offensive line, mostly a swing guard/tackle," Sassic previously told 247Sports. "And development at the highest level of competition is huge."
Versatility is key, especially for a young lineman looking for his best fit. Offensive line coach Ryan Clanton and Sassic developed a strong relationship over his recruitment and spring visits, helping the recruit see how he fits into Clanton's system and how he will grow.
