Penn State football's 2027 recruitment class is swarming with defensive backs early on since head coach Matt Campbell hit the gas.
A commitment wasn't the only thing Penn State gained from Saturday's spring visits
The Nittany Lions are one of cornerback Brandon Sherrard's top four teams. They are in contention to land the four-star along with Texas A&M, LSU, and Texas.
He also received 33 offers in total as of mid-April. Texas Tech, Miami, Missouri, Arizona State, Arkansas, Baylor, Iowa, North Carolina, and Notre Dame are a few of the others that extended offers
On Saturday, Sam Spiegelman of On3/Rivals reported these four official visits Sherrard has lined up. He also noted in the caption Sherrard's comment on his top schools:
"'It's a tight race,'" he told Spiegelman.

Penn State goes up against three SEC programs for four-star safety Brandon Sherrard
Sherrard is a four-star safety from Pearland, Tex., ranked No. 105 nationally, No. 14 at cornerback, and No. 14 among Texas recruits, per 247Sports Composite rankings. Rivals Industry Ranking lists him as a top 100 prospect at No. 98. He is the No. 13 safety and No. 12 recruit from his state in those rankings.
Penn State hosts Sherrard over the weekend of June 5 after he visits the Aggies the weekend prior. He will see the Tigers and Longhorns over the following two weekends, respectively.
Texas is the current favorite to land the safety with a 31.8 percent chance; Texas A&M is second at 21.2 percent percent. The Nittany Lions are fourth among his top programs with a 15.1 percent chance behind LSU's 18.2 percent chance.
As a junior at Shadow Creek High School in 2025, he played in six games and logged 22 total tackles and one tackle for loss. He had seven passes defensed, two interceptions, and one fumble recovery as well.
The blue and white have a No. 13 recruiting class, highlighted by four-star wide receiver Landon Blum and four-star tight end Cooper Terwilliger. Sherrard would be the third four-star on head coach Matt Campbell's 2027 roster. He would also join Jonathan Galette at safety, and cornerbacks Ka'ron Ceasar, Zachary Gleason Jr., and Semajay Robinson in the defensive back room.
