Penn State football recently earned its first commitment from the Class of 2027 in cornerback Semajay Robinson. While working on building up that recruitment class, assistant head coach and cornerbacks coach Terry Smith is making strides in that same position group across classes.

Penn State picks up first commitment from Class of 2027 with 4-star cornerback

Four-star cornerback Langston Pridgeon is a Class of 2028 prospect from Ashburn, Va. that is ranked 43rd nationally, per Rivals rankings. He is a Rivals300 recruit and ranked sixth overall among his those in his position group. Penn State is one school pushing hard for his commitment and it made great progress after a Saturday spring visit.

Penn State makes top of four-star CB Langston Pridgeon's list following spring practice visit

“I met with [Smith] , [secondary coach Deon] Broomfield  and [head coach Matt] Campbell,” Pridgeon said to Ryan Snyder of Blue White Illustrated. “I like [Smith's] intensity, stamped background of developing NFL DBs and willingness to forge a bond with the players deeper than football. I appreciate . . . Campbell’s personal values on character and education. I could see his passion for nurturing football players into young men.”

Per 247Sports Composite rankings, Pridgeon is a five-star recruit, ranked No. 28 overall, No. 2 among cornerbacks, and No. 1 out of Virginia prospects.

The young defensive back also took spring practice visits to Maryland, Rutgers, Texas A&M, and Virginia Tech, according to Snyder. Penn State continues standing out among the bunch in various areas to Pridgeon, especially in regards to the work every player gets in at practice.

“I liked the efficiency of the practice,” Pridgeon said. “No one was standing around and everyone was getting reps. It was nice to be able to see the DBs compete with the wideouts and see some of their technique. Another highlight of the visit was seeing the facility. Their facility was state-of-the-art with their recovery and weight room areas.”

Pridgeon added that the Nittany Lions are one of his top schools. Having connections in former Penn Staters, like running back Saquon Barkley, safety Kevin Winston Jr., offensive assistant Trace McSorley, and cornerback Zech McPhearson, are also reasons why the blue and white stand out to the recruit.
