Four-star quarterback Peter Bourque announced his de-commitment from Michigan on Tuesday night. Rivals reported the latest news of Bourque's recruitment update, which ultimately turned in favor of Penn State football.
"I want to make sure I'm making the best decision," Bourque said to Steve Wiltfong of Rivals, according to the Twitter/X post.
The Marion, Mass. native from the Class of 2027 is the sixth ranked quarterback in his cycle and ranked 86th overall nationally, per 247Sports Composite rankings. He's also the No. 1 prospect out of Massachusetts. Bourque committed to the Wolverines' program on Aug. 11, 2025, leaving the Nittany Lions in the shadows of his decision.
Four-star quarterback Peter Bourque de-commits from Michigan and keeps Penn State on his mind
Bourque was a top target for Penn State in the summer and was one of many highly touted prospects that slipped through its fingers. He showed signs of an elite quarterback from his sophomore season, not just as a passer but in terms of mobility as well — something the Nittany Lions struggled pulling out of Drew Allar.
Upon the announcement of his de-commitment, Rivals also reported which teams remain in his top five following the decision. Penn State, Virginia Tech, Florida, Georgia, and North Carolina are in the mix to land Bourque.

Along with the Gators, Bulldogs, and Tar Heels, head coach Matt Campbell must go against Virginia Tech head coach James Franklin. Franklin initially recruited the young quarterback for the Nittany Lions, but ultimately couldn't follow through on earning his commitment. On Dec. 16, both programs extended Bourque an offer — Campbell coming through with a re-offer and Franklin putting the Hokies on Bourque's mind for the first time in his recruitment.
Following his junior year performance, Bourque was named the Massachusetts Gatorade Football Player of the Year. He threw for 2,241 yards and 18 touchdowns, leading his Tabor Academy squad to an undefeated season and NEPSAC John Papas Bowl title, according to the press release. Bourque finished with a 63.3 completion percentage on the year and added an additional 688 yards and 15 touchdowns on the ground on 80 carries.
Bourque was also named the 2025 NEPSAC Class B Player of the Year and Offensive Player of the Year.
