Penn State football's Class of 2027 isn't heavy on offense, but head coach Matt Campbell and his Nittany Lions are in the running for their second wide receiver as of Thursday.

Penn State prepares for bad news 1 day before 4-star edge rusher announces commitment

Four-star wideout Deshawn Hall announced his top schools on April 30, as reported by Hayes Fawcett of On3/Rivals. Alongside Penn State are Michigan, Tennessee, Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, and Ohio State.

Four-star wide receiver Deshawn Hall puts Penn State in Top 7

Hall is the No. 200 overall recruit in the country and 24th-ranked wide receiver (first across Alabama wideouts). He is also ranked No. 10 out of recruits from his state, according to 247Sports Composite rankings.

In 2025, Hall played for Prattville and registered 40 receptions for 660 yards and five touchdowns in 10 games. He averaged 16.5 yards per catch as well as a junior.

The Auburn Tigers are currently in the lead to land Hall's commitment with a 30.9 percent chance, according to Rivals predictions. The Nittany Lions (11.3 percent), Volunteers (13.5 percent), and Crimson Tide (15.8 percent) all have over a 10 percent chance of landing him as well.

Hall has just four official visits lined up as of Thursday. He sees Clemson first on May 29 followed by Alabama (June 5), Auburn (June 12), and Tennessee (June 19). He also visited the Volunteers unofficially on March 26.

Penn State has just one wide receiver committed from the Class of 2027. At the time of his commitment, on April 4, four-star wideout Landon Blum was the highest-ranked recruit in Campbell's class. He was also the first player on offense committed.

He and four-star tight end Cooper Terwilliger are the only pass catchers committed, and are two of five players on the offensive side of the ball. Three-stars, interior offensive linemen Owen Reilly and Jon Sassic, and offensive tackle Ryan Robbins, are the other three in the class as well.

Penn State awaits the decision from a four-star running back as well. Rusher Aiden Gibson is between five schools, and will announce his commitment on Friday, May 1.
