Penn State football is getting closer to another Class of 2027 tight end commitment.

Three-star recruit Sean Currie is ranked No. 560 nationally and No. 32 among tight ends, per 247Sports Composite rankings. He's also the No. 15 prospect from New Jersey. Rivals Industry Ranking has him ranked in the same ballpark range at No, 514, No, 28, and No. 13, respectively.

Late on Wednesday, Brian Dohn of 247Sports logged an expert prediction in favor of the Nittany Lions landing Currie's commitment.

Currie was originally committed to Virginia, but decommitted on March 12. He intended on playing both football and lacrosse for the Cavaliers after spending this past fall focusing on the latter. However, after taking more time to consider his future, Currie pivoted and reopened his recruitment in hopes of finding the right place for his development on the football field exclusively.

Expert prediction favors Penn State landing commitment of three-star tight end Sean Currie

Currie has three official visits lined up, including one with Penn State. He will be in Happy Valley last over the weekend of June 19 after visiting Ohio State (May 29) and Texas A&M (June 5).

The Lawrenceville, N.J. native also has offers from Rutgers and Washington.

Since reopening his recruitment, Currie visited the Aggies on an unofficial visit on March 22. Still, though, the Nittany Lions are in the lead to land his commitment. In addition to Dohn's expert prediction, Penn State also leads by a wide margin in Rivals' projections. The blue and white have an 88.8 percent chance at landing Currie with the Scarlet Knights and Texas A&M well behind with just over a three percent chance.

The Nittany Lions have been relatively quiet in the tight end room since picking up four-star Cooper Terwilliger on April 13.

Excluding the two running back commits, Aiden Gibson and Chukwuma Odoh, who fit a more physical profile in the offensive backfield than a second or third pass catcher option, Penn State isn't swimming in skill players. Terwilliger is joined by four-star wide receivers Landon Blum and Jamir Dean, and the list ends there.

The blue and white are also targeting tight ends Parker Newman and Ben Kolar, but have seen the most progress with Newman's recruitment process out of the two.

As for Currie, who's 6-foot-7 and 230 pounds, he adds to Penn State's current tight end room in terms of measurements. Though slightly underweight than those eligible to return, the Nittany Lions are losing 6-foot-7 senior Benjamin Brahmer and 6-foot-6 redshirt senior Gabe Burkle after 2025. Currie adds height to the returning roster that bounces between 6-foot-3 and 6-foot-4, which is where Terwilliger (6-foot-5) roughly lands as well.

Currie also has experience playing at outside linebacker in high school, proving himself as a useful tool on the offensive line as a blocker when needed. Penn State can work with his weight to get Currie where he needs to be, but it can't change the height of its current and incoming tight ends. Having that size on the line makes Currie versatile blocking and as a pass catching option.
