Week 3 kicked off with a Buffalo Bills win over the Miami Dolphins on Thursday night, and the Sunday slate is just hours away. Four former Penn State football players were listed on their teams' injury reports throughout the week and only one was taken off and ruled available for their Sunday game.
Here is the full injury report and update on Tyler Warren, Joey Porter Jr., Kevin Winston Jr., and Chris Godwin Jr. for Sept. 21.
Tyler Warren AVAILABLE for Indianapolis Colts v. Tennessee Titans
The tight end did not play on Wednesday due to a toe injury and was limited Thursday and Friday. After an NFL Rookie of the Week performance against the Broncos, it would be disappointing for Indianapolis to not have its rising star on the field.
As of Saturday, Sept. 20, though, Warren's questionable tag was removed and he will be on the field for Week 3.
Joey Porter Jr. OUT for Pittsburgh Steelers v. New England Patriots
Porter Jr. did not play all week ahead of Pittsburgh's away game due to a hamstring injury sustained in Week 1. In a press conference earlier in the week, head coach Mike Tomlin said the cornerback was questionable, but without him practicing at all this week, porter Jr. is officially ruled out.
It's an unfortunate situation for the Steelers who were hoping for Porter Jr.'s return in Week 2 against the Seahawks.
Kevin Winston Jr. DOUBTFUL for Tennessee Titans v. Indianapolis Colts
Winston Jr. is still doubtful to play on Sunday due to a hamstring injury. He was limited in practice Wednesday through Friday, and it's likely that Nittany Lions fans will have to wait to see the safety's NFL debut. There has been no released timeline as to when the Penn State product will be back for Tennessee.
Chris Godwin Jr. OUT for Tampa Bay Buccaneers v. New York Jets
Unsurprisingly, Godwin Jr. is still out for Tampa Bay. The wide receiver underwent ankle surgery before Week 1 and had a predicted return slated for Week 6 or Week 7. However, now that Godwin Jr. practiced (limited) all three days before Sunday's game against the New York Jets, that timeline may be pushed up.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter on Sept. 20, there is a high probability of the wideout returning in Week 4 after rehabbing from his injury and making good progress. Schefter reported that Godwin Jr. is expected to play practice reps this coming week. If no setbacks happen, he will likely suit up for the Buccaneers earlier than anticipated.
