Former Penn State football tight end Tyler Warren had four catches for 79 yards in Week 2 against the Denver Broncos. It followed up his regular season debut of 76 receiving yards on seven receptions against Miami, and earned him national recognition.

Indianapolis Colts contributor Amanda Foster reported on Tuesday that the tight end was nominated for NFL Rookie of the Week after the team secured its second win of the season. Two days laters on Thursday, Sept. 18, it was announced that Warren was honored as the top rookie from Week 2.

Tight end Tyler Warren named Week 2's NFL Rookie of the Week

Warren's impact on the offense has been known since his stepped on the field in the NFL Preseason. A small sample size of snaps was enough to know he was going to be an immediate difference maker. Beyond receptions, too, the tight end threw key blocks up against the Dolphins and Broncos in the first two weeks of the regular season and became a favorite target of QB Daniel Jones in the pass game. All four of Warren's catches in Week 2 picked up a first down.

The only thing missing from his rookie campaign so far is a score. In Week 1, Warren was close to connecting with Jones, but couldn't get the catch in the end zone with the Dolphin defender on his heels. His time to score has yet to come, but as a consistent target, he'll be up on the scoreboard soon. In the meantime, he has the physicality to make room for his teammates to cross the plane by pushing defenders out of the way.

After his first two regular season performances, Indianapolis can take a sigh of relief knowing its first round draft selection was a good one. Warren was the second tight end taken in the 2025 NFL Draft. After outperforming the 10th selection of the draft, Michigan TE Colston Loveland, early this regular season, the Colts clearly made the right decision and got lucky that Warren wasn't taken off the board first.

The Penn State product was nominated alongside New York Giants RB Cam Skattebo, Jacksonville Jaguars RB Bhayshul Tuten, Tennessee Titans WR Elic Ayomanor, Carolina Panthers WR Tetairoa McMillan and Philadelphia Eagles S Andrew Mukuba. Warren joins teammate and Indianapolis RB Jonathan Taylor in earning national recognition following Week 2 as Taylor was announced as the AFC Offensive Player of the Week.

The Colts have their first road game of the season in Week 3. Kickoff against the Tennessee Titans is slated for 1 p.m. ET on Sunday, Sept. 21 at Nissan Stadium.
