In the eyes of most Penn State fans, James Franklin desperately needed to win “a big win one.” And to some, a first-round College Football Playoff victory over SMU at Beaver Stadium doesn’t suffice. Though maybe, a Fiesta Bowl CFP quarterfinal victory over Boise State on New Year’s Eve with satiate their appetite for big game success.
The Nittany Lions, courtesy of that first-round win, are heading back to the Fiesta Bowl, where they’ve had so much success over the years, though they aren’t the only ones familiar with the setting. Boise State and Penn State are a combined 10-0 all-time in the Fiesta Bowl and now meet there with a spot in the CFP semifinals against either Notre Dame or Georgia on the line.
