Penn State football's spring season is nearly in session with Nittany Lions starting their winter workouts and head coach Matt Campbell solidifying a schedule, including the concluding Blue-White event that's traditionally a scrimmage.
Matt Campbell’s off-the-wall hire is quickly paying dividends on the recruiting trail
Ahead of the spring session, though, the blue and white are navigating injuries. That list includes quarterback Rocco Becht, who is on track to throw halfway through the spring but will remain non-contact throughout the season, and tight end Andrew Rappleyea, who posted a photo with his right foot in a wrap. Rappleyea's timeline is unsure in regards to his spring availability, but he will be back in action for the 2026 regular season. Penn State is still waiting on linebacker Tony Rojas' return, who is recovering from and ACL injury that ended his 2025 season.
On Wednesday, March 4, the Nittany Lions added a third to that group, as reported by 247Sports' Mark Brennan. Offensive lineman Anthony Donkoh, another prominent player on Penn State's roster, is reportedly missing the spring season entirely.

Offensive lineman Anthony Donkoh reportedly out due to injury for Penn State football spring season
According to Brennan, Donkoh had an undisclosed "medical procedure" that will cause him to miss spring practice. However, on the brightside, Penn State anticipates the offensive lineman returning in full for preseason camp.
Donkoh was a key retention for the Nittany Lions and Campbell in year one. He announced his decision to stay in Happy Valley on Dec. 30, 2025 after getting reassurance from the new staff that Penn State is still his home. He told Lions247 that the staff emphasized that Donkoh is a priority.
The redshirt junior started in 21 contests at tackle and guard over two seasons. In 2025, the only two he did not start in were at UCLA and versus Northwestern due to injury, though he still logged reps as a backup. He appeared in all 13 games as a redshirt sophomore. In 2024, he played the entire season and missed one start versus Ohio State. Donkoh made four appearances as a true freshman in 2023.
