Penn State football head coach Matt Campbell confirmed at the start of February that the Nittany Lions have plans to hold a spring event in some fashion. In previous years, Penn State held a Blue-White scrimmage at Beaver Stadium.

On Monday, Feb. 16, the team finalized a date for the spring event that Campbell intends on holding. The Nittany Lions kept things traditional with the spring schedule, penciling in the date for April 25.

With the social media post including in the caption "more details to follow," it's unsure whether Campbell plans on taking the traditional scrimmage route or getting more creative with the spring event.

Before the elimination of a second Transfer Portal window, many teams — such as Texas, Ohio State, Michigan State, and Missouri — canceled their the typical spring scrimmage game in hopes of avoiding other teams from poaching their players. Iowa State, under Campbell in 2025, was another coach that leaned towards not playing a spring game, but ultimately did so by the time April came around.

Even without that second portal looming over teams, many might still opt not to play a spring scrimmage out of worry of other programs' scouts observing for future matchups.

Still, Campbell believed it was important that his new squad of Nittany Lions get in front of the student body and fans in some way. In regards to whether it will be a full spring scrimmage or not, Campbell said that decision will be based on the health of his players.

Quarterback Rocco Becht, for instance, is still recovering from offseason shoulder surgery he had in December. Quarterbacks coach Jake Waters said the senior is ahead of schedule in terms of recovery and is on track to start throwing mid-spring. He will remain no contact, as expected, which might derail any plans of traditional spring scrimmages.

Regardless of what the spring event looks like, it's important for fans to see what's new for Penn State football from Campbell and his staff and how they operate to the new faces on the roster.
