In easily one of the biggest surprises of Day 2 of the NFL Draft, Penn State quarterback Drew Allar is headed to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Excuse us? That's right, the Steelers took Allar off the board in the third round, which no question had people a bit stunned watching things live.

This Vega Ioane quote should prove to Ravens fans that he was the right pick

Allar joins a quarterback room that features future Hall of Famer Aaron Rogers, plus former Ohio State national champ Will Howard. Don't forget about Mason Rudolph. While Rodgers hasn't locked in 100 percent to return next season, Ian Rapoport reported the Steelers are confident he'll play next fall.

So, what does that mean for Allar? At worst, he'll push for a QB2 job, but if Rodgers stuns us all and bails, he'll be fighting to start come Week 1. And in case Penn State and Steelers fans needed a reason to unite in believing in Allar, an anonymous NFL coordinator did his best to get people fired up. Take it away Jeremy Fowler:

Drew Allar getting drafted by the Steelers is a move that can't be overlooked

Allar returned to Penn State last season in hopes of raising his NFL Draft stock. He looked like a potential first-round pick before the campaign got started, but things went from bad to worse for him and he ended up suffering a season-ending broken ankle in the loss to Northwestern.

On the season, Allar ended up throwing for eight touchdowns and three interceptions. The year before, Allar was a stud QB, powering Penn State to the College Football Playoff. The Nittany Lions reached the semifinals, but lost to Marcus Freeman and Notre Dame.

During the 2024 campaign, he tossed for 3,347 yards and 24 TDs. Because of that, it really felt like he was going to be a future first-rounder. Things didn't go to plan and now the Steelers have taken a bit of a gamble by taking him No. 76 overall. If you ask Tom Pelisserro, though, this could prove to be a big-time steal.

Between what Peilisseo and the NFL coordinator said, it should give people some hope that Allar will be ready to deliver for the AFC North side if his number gets called. For now, there are plenty of haters bashing this poor kid, but they could end up regretting what they're saying about Allar a few years down the road. That's surely what the Pittsburgh front office would love to see.
