Former Penn State football quarterback Drew Allar is an imperfect prospect in the 2026 NFL Draft. Luckily for him, there's a lack of quarterback depth in this class.
NFL coordinator gets honest about why QB Drew Allar didn't develop as promised
Allar possesses promise and was "named the toolsy developmental prospect of favor," per Ben Solak of ESPN.
While this NFL team isn't necessarily in desperate need of a quarterback, Solak thinks it could take a leap of faith later in the draft in hopes of the pick hitting down the line.
Ben Solak of ESPN predicts Penn State quarterback Drew Allar gets drafted by the Miami Dolphins
The Miami Dolphins could go quarterback-less in this draft, which Solak noted. However, they could also address glaringly obvious needs and also pick up Allar. Solak projects Allar being the No. 130 overall selection, going in the fourth-round of the NFL Draft.
"Allar is a tough nut to crack in this draft class," Solak wrote. ". . . He has the traditional height, weight and arm talent of a dominant pocket passer, but the deterioration of his play from 2024 to 2025 puts a hiccup in his developmental projection."
For Miami, its quarterback room isn't 100 percent stable.
The Dolphins picked up Malik Willis during free agency from Green Bay. Behind Jordan Love for two seasons, Willis completed 70-of-89 passes for 972 yards and six touchdowns with zero interceptions. He had a 78.7 percent completion rate as well over 11 games.
They also have Quinn Ewers, who they drafted in the seventh-round of the 2025 NFL Draft. In four games and three starts, he had 55 completions for 622 yards and three touchdowns with a 66.3 completion percentage. He was picked off three times in his rookie season as well.
Miami is banking on Willis being a free agent hit. With the addition of Allar in that position room, it provides good competition for the backup role while also having further security in the instance that the former Packer doesn't pan out as intended.
Willis' contract is also good for just two seasons. If Allar continues developing, which he must, there's more certainty for the Dolphins' future following the 2027 season at the latest.
